My Guardian Angel

 *MY GUARDIAN ANGEL *

Dear pappa

I am little anxious as I am writing this as I have not written about you in a long time , almost dating back to the essay I wrote back in school days.

Few things words can expound better !

Pappa you will soon retire from your service life , a life you have been living since you were 20years old . It’s been 38 years since, and a lot has changed in these years and yet lot of things are same as ever .

I still remember the days you took me school with you (Pandewadi), I was only four years old and sat with class of first standard students . I could easily deduce  how well respected you were , among students as well as teachers based on the way I was treated by both of them .

You encouraged me to participate in almost every event taking place in school or outside , be it athletics or educational. Well , not just me . I think most of your students would say the same thing about you ! Bringing out the best in people , that’s what you did .

These events and your interactions with seventh standard batch at that time are my first  memories of you as a teacher.

With this dream job you gave wings to thousands of students that were lucky enough to be guided by you .Just like every one of your students I too have many bittersweet memories of you as a teacher . From getting bitten too pulp for not remembering table of 13 to helping me with my elocution speech till 12:00 AM .

There is one that  I remember distinctly and has a special place in my heart . At the time I had just joined sanik school Satara .  A week after I remember calling you early in the morning saying I no longer want to stay here . By evening you travelled all the way to Satara just to convince me that staying here will only benefit me on the future .

Thanks to you I developed wonderful hobby of reading . You  made me understand the significance of a good book and an impact it can have on our lives . Apart from being a great teacher you are also an explicit writer .

You faced so many challenges while trying to get your first book published . Most troubling one was that of financial crunch . We ( me and didi ) were to young to understand this but later on we found out that mammy mortgaged her jewellery against your wishes to help your book get published . You still tell us this incident so proudly , saying if not for her you wouldn’t have managed to be a writer as you are today . Seeing you receive phone calls and letters appreciating your books sure puts a smile on my face .

Throughout the years you have encouraged me in every possible manner. Be it educational, sports or knowhow. There were so many incidence were your perspective helped your think clearly and take firm decisions.

One of such decisions was about joining competitive exam classes . I was so confused at this stage that I had so many sleepless nights . You cleared my doubts and gave me  confidence saying ‘’ Just focus on your strongholds and everything will be turn out the way you want ‘’

There is only so much a son can write about his father . You have always been a great father , teacher and a friend and you will always be so .

I’ll never say take rest and enjoy your retirement life because I know it’s hard for person like you to seat ideally doing anything less than everything you can.

So all the best for all the plans you have laid ahead of your retirement …
